Spices
Ground Ginger – The ginger plant was originally cultivated in China before spreading to Southern Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Known for its strong, sweet taste, ginger is typically preserved for sweet foods and wines.
Nutmeg – The spice known as nutmeg comes from the seed of an evergreen tree, Nutmeg Myristica. Indonesia is the largest producer of the sweet spice, often restricted to cooking in sweet foods. Nutmeg is available whole and ground.
Allspice – Allspice, also known as Jamaica Pepper, is the dried, unripe fruit of a plant called Pimenta Dioica. It is known as allspice because of its resemblance to the aromas of various spices such as nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon. Allspice is available whole and ground.
